Mass murderer’s son tries to follow in dad’s footsteps

Yury Odnachev has been charged with attempted murder after an unidentified man was admitted to a hospital in Kharkov, Ukraine, on April 9 with knife wounds to the left hand and abdomen. The injured man was a 30-year-old longtime drug addict, who claimed that an acquaintance had attacked him. He locked himself in his attacker’s car and drove himself to the hospital while on the brink of shock.  

The 40-year-old suspect in the case is the son of , the most notorious serial killer in Russian and Soviet history, who killed up to 65 people between 1978 and 1990. Chikatilo was executed in 1994.

Odnachev, who adopted his mother’s maiden name, has previous repeated convictions for extortion and a robbery conviction. He served seven and a half years in a maximum-security prison and has lived in Kharkov since the late 1990s.

Odnachev says he did not attack the injured man, but the drug addict stole his car and was involved in some altercation after that. It is known that Odnachev has a history of conflict with the victim of the attack.
