Boy survives after doctors remove 3-inch nail from his head

A 13-year-old boy was rescued after shooting a 3-inch long nail into his skull. He tried to take his life after an argument with his mother.

Doctors of a hospital in Barnaul, Southern Siberia, performed urgent surgery on the schoolboy earlier this week, Life.ru website reports Friday. The surgery lasted ten hours.

Artem Bogatyrev attempted suicide after a passionate quarrel with his mother. Locking himself up in the bathroom, he charged a self-made pistol with a long iron nail and put it to his temple.

The teenager’s mother found him unconscious and bleeding on the floor and called the emergency rescue.

“The boy was brought in here in a really grave condition,” surgeon Vladimir Tulupov said commenting on the accident.

“The bloke was lucky, the nail went behind one of his eyes and almost reached the second eye socket. Had it passed just one millimeter lower than it did, the boy would have been dead,” he said.
