Driver dies after falling out of speeding train in Moscow metro

9 Jul, 12:20 PM

A 23 year-old Moscow metro train driver has fallen out of a train travelling at full speed and died as a result of his injuries, Russian website InoFox.ru reports. He had opened the cabin door for reasons unknown and fell out when the train went round a bend.

According to the Moscow metro depot’s report, the unnamed man died on Wednesday at about 23.00 Moscow time.

“I don’t know why he opened the door of the cabin. It's prohibited by the safety code of practise. Fortunately, he was travelling as a passenger or the second engineer. The train stopped and there hadn't been any victims among the passengers.” A spokesman for the Moscow metro depot said.

A similar case occurred in Moscow in 2001. A 46 year-old train engineer, who had been working for the metro for 23 years, fell out of the cabin during rush-hour, between Paveletskaya and Dobryninskays stations. The packed train stopped automatically in the tunnel.

Rescuers discovered the body of the driver near the train. He had died as a result of a head injury and high-tension impact.
